The Weight Loss Industry is Self Perpetuating

In order for companies that offer weight loss products to stay in business, there must be a constant supply of people who need to lose weight. Any program that is too successful at helping people lose weight and keep it off runs the risk of eliminating its customer base. The author argues that the diet industry is able to keep people coming back largely due to the willingness of dieters to buy into hype, testimonials and celebrity endorsements more than they should. Consumers are also too willing to believe in the good intentions and infallibility of weight loss companies.
